Argument

Resurrection as Messianic Vindication

The resurrection is God's public vindication of the crucified Jesus as Messiah and Lord.

The apostles do not treat resurrection as a detachable miracle. They proclaim it as God's verdict on Jesus' identity, mission, and kingship.

Premises

  1. 1 Peter proclaims that God raised the Jesus whom his hearers crucified.
  2. 2 Acts connects resurrection with Jesus' messianic office and covenant blessing.
  3. 3 Paul summarizes resurrection appearances as part of the received gospel.

God's verdict

The resurrection answers the shame of crucifixion. God publicly vindicates the one rejected and killed.

Messiah and Lord

Peter's conclusion is explicit: God has made the crucified Jesus both Lord and Christ.
